Social Work (Accelerated Master’s Degree from USD)

NSU Bachelor of Arts in Sociology to USD Master of Social Work (3+2 Program)

First Year - Fall (NSU)


NSU coursework must be taken at NSU unless noted.

First Year - Spring (NSU)

Second Year - Fall (NSU)

NSU student must apply (between September 1 and December 1) to USD Graduate School for admission into the Master’s of Social Work program. By spring semester, students will be formally accepted into the USD’s MSW program.

Third Year - Spring (NSU)

Fourth Year - Fall (NSU)


Student applies for graduation from NSU with a BA in Sociology and graduates in December.  Beginning the spring semester (second semester of MSW coursework), student will be a USD graduate student.

  • SOCW 601 - History and Philosophy of Social Work** 3 credits
  • SOCW 610 - Generalist Practice I** 3 credits
  • SOCW 641 - Human Behavior in Social Environment** 3 credits
  • SOCW 683 - Field Education I** (16-20 hours per week) 3 credits

**Course will also count toward NSU Sociology undergraduate degree.

First Year - Spring (USD MSW)


  • SOCW 600 - Social Policy 3 credits
  • SOCW 630 - Practice with Small Groups 3 credits
  • SOCW 640 - Diversity and Social Justice 3 credits
  • SOC 684 - Field Experience II (16-20 hours per week) 3 credits
