Ms. Tara Arntsen, Director
The mission of the Northern State University Academic English Program (AEP) is to provide all students who do not speak English as their first language with a challenging English language program that prepares them to participate and succeed in any academic degree program at the undergraduate or graduate level in a U.S. university. The AEP is also designed to assist and familiarize students with American culture and the different cultural dynamics involved both in the classroom and out of the classroom.
The goals of the Northern State University Academic English Program are to:
- Give quality English language instruction to students of all nationalities and English levels for linguistic success in every area of life.
- Assist students with the acculturation process to the United States both inside and outside of the classroom.
- Equip students with the academic and critical thinking skills they need for success in the classroom.
There are four levels in the Academic English Program: Pre-Beginner, Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. Once an individual has successfully completed the Advanced Level, the English language requirement to enter NSU has been fulfilled.
