HIST 316 - Pre-Modern Japan This course examines social, cultural, political, and economic transformations and continuities in Japan from prehistoric times to 1800. Major topics include the formation of the Yamato state, Buddhism, Heian literature, samurai class formation, the Warring States period, and Tokugawa era social transformations. 3 credits
