Students who major in physical education will be prepared to assume teaching or non-teaching positions in K-12 physical education. The student will develop skills in the teaching of individual, dual, and team sports, K-12 methods of physical education instruction, exercise science, motor learning, motor development, human anatomy, human physiology, curriculum and measurement, administration and elementary physical education activities. Physical education majors are encouraged to add a minor to their program. Minors available through the HPE Department include health education and coaching.

The health education minor offers preparation in the areas of first aid and CPR, personal health, community health, school health, and K-12 methods of health instruction. The coaching minor prepares varsity and youth sport coaches and leads to a coaching endorsement.

As part of the system general education requirements, students should select biology in Goal #6 .
