Secondary Education Teacher Certification

Location(s): Northern State University Campus

This academic program provides an option for individuals who want to become secondary teachers and have earned a baccalaureate degrees in the following areas: English, Biology, Chemistry, Social Studies, History, or Spanish. Admission to the Teacher Education program is required. Candidates must also take and pass the appropriate content Praxis exam as well as the Praxis PLT: Grades 7-12 to be recommended to the state for certification.

SEED 496 - Field Experience 1-12 credits (1 credit)

SEED 400 - 7-12 Curriculum and Instruction 3 credits
SEED 450 - Reading and Content Literacy 2 credits
EDFN 472 - School Law and Ethics for Educators 2 credits
EDFN 445 - Methods of Teaching English and Academic Content to English Learners 3 credits (This course is not required for Spanish.)
SEED 488 - 7-12 Student Teaching 2-16 credits (8 credits)*
*Spanish candidates register for SEED 488 for 4 credits and ELED 488 for 4 credits.
