Student Learning Outcomes

  • The students will be able to use the historical method in investigating important questions about people and society.
  • Students will be able to express clearly in writing the results of their historical research.
  • The students will be able to identify and explain the significance of important figures and events in American and world history.
  • Student will be able to use history techniques and concepts in analyzing new knowledge and current events.

Coursework Required


No grade below a C will be accepted in a course taken to fulfill the history requirements. Students must maintain a 2.5 cumulative grade point average in the major to meet graduation requirements.

It is recommended that students take HIST 121 , HIST 122 , HIST 151 , and HIST 152  before beginning their upper-division work.

History Electives (9 credits)


Three courses (9 credits) HIST courses or with advisor approval, as many as two of the following courses may be substituted.

Degree Requirements (BA) - 9 credits


Arts and Humanities (6 credits)


Two additional courses from those listed in General Education Requirements Goal #4. The courses must be from different disciplines than those selected to satisfy General Education Requirements Goal #4.

Specific requirements for the BA degree:

  • For an English (BA), students must take 3 semesters of a Foreign Language (maximum of 2 disciplines), and 1 additional non-language SGR#4 approved course.
  • For all other BA degrees, students must take a total of four SGR #4 approved courses from different disciplines. At least one (1) course, and no more than two (2), must be a foreign language.

TOTAL CREDITS REQUIRED: 120 CREDITS
