The Bachelor of Arts in music is for students majoring in music as part of a liberal arts program. It offers a general background in theory, literature, history, and performance. This is not a teacher-preparation program.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Students will demonstrate competency in fundamental musical skills through sight-playing/sight-singing and functional piano playing.
- Students will demonstrate competency in the application of knowledge of music theory through analysis, vocal/instrumental arranging, and composition. (Cross-curricular Skill: Critical and Creative Thinking)
- Students will demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate in writing on topics in the field of music history through the purposeful use of educational resources, critical thinking, and supporting details. (Cross-curricular Skills: Inquiry and Analysis; Information Literacy)
- Students will demonstrate skills in preparation for and performance of musical works that exhibit effective artistic expression. (Cross-curricular Skill: Foundational Lifelong Learning Skills)
- Students will demonstrate the ability to integrate skills and knowledge acquired over the course of an undergraduate education, particularly within the major, for a specific purpose that has value in the discipline. (Cross-curricular Skills: Intercultural Knowledge; Integrative Learning)

- Keyboard (MUAP 110 or MUAP 115 ) 2 credits

Performance Emphasis: 22 credits
Arts Technology Emphasis: 22 credits

Must choose at least one class from each fine arts discipline. Notes
Students in this major will follow music major requirements as outlined for all music major degrees, specifically those pertaining to (1) the major performance area; (2) ensembles; (3) music electives; (4) senior recital; and (5) keyboard competency. General Education Requirements - Baccalaureate (30 credits)

Elementary and Special Education majors must take GEOG 210 , POLS 100 , and HIST 151 or HIST 152 . Civics Requirement: one course must be completed to fulfill the civics requirement. Courses that satisfy this requirement are marked with [CIV]. SGR #4 - 6 credits in two disciplines
Degree Requirements (BA) - 9 credits
Arts and Humanities (6 credits)
Two additional courses from those listed in General Education Requirements Goal #4. The courses must be from different disciplines than those selected to satisfy General Education Requirements Goal #4. Specific requirements for the BA degree: - For an English (BA), students must take 3 semesters of a Foreign Language (maximum of 2 disciplines), and 1 additional non-language SGR#4 approved course.
- For all other BA degrees, students must take a total of four SGR #4 approved courses from different disciplines. At least one (1) course, and no more than two (2), must be a foreign language.
TOTAL CREDITS REQUIRED: 120 CREDITS
