MUS 432 - History of Music III (1650-1825)


This course is intended for music majors as an in-depth exploration of the literature and history of art music from the Baroque era (ca. 1600-1750) and Viennese Classical era (1750-1800). This course is a general survey of the development of music covering the emergence and trends of the Baroque era and the rise of the Classical forms. The objective of the course is to illustrate the music of these eras through composers, individual works, and score that typify the various forms and styles. Outside listening, reading, and musical analysis will supplement lectures. The ability to read musical notation is assumed for all students taking this class. 2 credits
