MUS 434 - History of Music IV (1825-present) This course is intended for music majors and as an in-depth exploration of the literature and history of art music from the Romantic er (ca. 1800) up to the present day. This course is a general survey of the development of music covering nineteenth-century romanticism and the modern trends of music beginning in the twentieth century and continuing to the present day. The objective of the course is to illustrate the music of these eras through composers, individual works, and scores that typify the various forms and styles. Outside listening, reading, and musical analysis will supplement lectures. The ability to read musical notation is assumed for all students taking this class. 2 credits
