Braille Education Endorsement may be issued on any certificate or as a stand-alone certificate.

Please check with your Academic Advisor for information pertaining to the various endorsements recognized by the South Dakota Department of Education, Office of Teacher Certification.

SD Department of Education requirements.

Program Requirements

Proficiency in reading Braille and recommendation for certification by the South Dakota School for the Blind and Visually Impaired.

ELED 450 - K-8 Reading Methods 3 credits
SPED 423 - Teaching Students with Visual Impairments 2 credits or
SPED 523 - Teaching Students with Visual Impairments 2 credits
SPED 424 - Classroom Modification and Assistive Tech 2 credits or
SPED 524 - Classroom Modification and Assistive Tech 2 credits
Successful completion of the Braille proficiency test administered through the Braille and Talking Book Library.
