Business Administration (BS)

The Business Administration major at NSU provides a comprehensive exploration of all business disciplines. This generalized business major is designed to complement the studies of those students with diverse majors in the liberal or fine arts or education, or for those students seeking flexibility in completion of a business degree.

Student Learning Outcomes

  • Understand and demonstrate the ability to analyze international business concepts. (Cross-curricular Skill: Inquiry and Analysis)
  • Apply knowledge and reasoning skills to address various business challenges and opportunities via strategic analysis. (Cross-curricular Skill: Problem Solving)
  • Analyze business and organizational situations using ethical approaches to decision making. (Cross-curricular Skill: Ethical Reasoning)
  • Demonstrate critical thinking skills in business related situations. (Cross-curricular Skill: Critical and Creative Thinking)
  • Students will develop effective teamwork skills. (Cross-curricular Skill: Teamwork)

Exit Requirements for Business Majors

In addition to Northern State University graduation requirements, baccalaureate business majors must:

  • Complete a minimum of 30 semester hours of course work in the School of Business at Northern State University. Acceptance of course work completed at other colleges and universities will be evaluated by the Dean.
  • Take School of Business exit exam

Coursework Required

Management Elective (3 credits)

Economics Elective (3 credits)

  • Any 300/400-level ECON course. NOTE: If students uses ECON 441  to fulfill this requirement, it cannot be used to fulfill the International Business Elective requirement.

International Business Elective (3 credits)

NOTE: If student uses ECON 441  to fulfill this requirement, it cannot be used to fulfill the Economics Elective requirement.

MIS Elective (3 credits)

Total: 24 credits

Recommendation for General Education Goal #5 (MATH 114):

It is recommended that MATH 114  or higher be taken to fulfill GE Goal #5.

  • Course with MATH prefix above the level of College Algebra* OR
  • Third course in Natural Sciences OR
  • 3 credits
  • NOTE: MATH 103 , MATH 104 , and MATH 115  are considered to be at the same level as College Algebra and therefore may not be used to satisfy this requirement.
