Select 12 credits in each of 2 areas of emphasis (e.g., Education, ESL, Special Education, Counseling, Sport Performance & Leadership, E-Learning, and Music.) or Secondary Teaching emphasis.

English as a New Language (ENL) Emphasis


  • EDFN 592, Language Theory and Acquisition for ENL Education 3 credits
  • EDFN 592, Curriculum and Instruction for ENL Education 3 credits
  • EDFN 592, Language and Culture for Teachers of ENL Learners 3 credits

Secondary Teaching Emphasis (21 credits)


This emphasis is geared toward those individuals who hold a four-year degree and would like to complete a teaching degree so that they would be eligible for SD Teacher Certification. This emphasis addresses the secondary-level high needs teacher shortage issues.
