Washington Internship

Washington Center Internship and Academic Seminars

Qualified second-semester sophomore, junior, and senior students may spend a semester at the Washington Center in Washington, D.C. The Washington Center program allows students to experience life in the nation’s capital, and to work with and learn from policy-makers. Semester programs are offered in such areas as:

  1. Politics, Lobbying, and Government Affairs;
  2. Broadcast and Print Journalism;
  3. Executive Branch and Public Administration;
  4. Congress;
  5. Minorities in Congress;
  6. Foreign Policy and International Relations/Studies;
  7. International and Cultural Exchange;
  8. Business/International Business and Trade, and Economics
  9. International Development;
  10. Law and Legal Studies.

Washington Center students can earn a full semester of credit (typically 15-18 semester hours) by participating in a seminar in the program area, writing a research paper or taking an evening elective course, and by participating in an internship. Internship placements have included the Office of the U.S. Senate, CNN, the White House, the U.S. Department of State, and the Federal Trade Commission. Students must have a grade point average of 2.50 or higher to apply.
